problem with USB cable on laptop
I have an IBM thinkpad A31 and I bought a USB cable and it works on one of the HP machines at work but not on my IBM thinkpad A31 or another thinkpad that I have access to but I can't remember what model. Mine is running XP and the other is running windows 98.
I plug it in and it says:

It's worthless... I took it back. It might be good for circuitboards but I haven't done any circuitboard soldering with it. Instead I got a butane powered soldering iron which works great. Well I brought my cable and remote into work and tried it on someone else's desktop. Apparently the cable and program does not like my IBM thinkpad or my in-laws thinkpad. Does anyone have it working on a thinkpad?

Ok, I have a RS 15-2116 remote and I have access to two IBM laptop computers. I tried to make a parallel port cable using an IDE cable with no success. I abandoned this aproach in favor of a purchased cable. (from http://jp1.filebug.com/) I decided to go with the USB version.
