On further review, there doesn't seem to be anything that I can see that requires the Panasonic TH-42PWD7UY upgrade to use the Panasonic Combo protocol. The Panasonic protocol seems to be just fine as far as KM is concerned. Anyone see a reason why this doesn't work? (I'm doing this remote for a ...

lol Yeah, having to re-program the channels every time you turn on the VCR would be less than optimal.

You're quite right. I didn't ask the question I intended, which was really the last question you posed.

wow. Impossible isn't a phrase I'm used to seeing on this board. You guys seem to do the impossible (or near impossible, I guess) all the time. This makes me curious enough to ask - does impossible in this case mean so techically difficult you might as well start over from scratch, or is there some ...

I don't have an IR file set up yet, just working on the device upgrades first. The first device (the one using the Comb2 protocol) is from the file Panasonic_TH-42PWD7UY.txt in the Device Upgrades/TV section of the Yahoo group file section. (For some reason, its not in this sites files). The other ...

Hmmm, I like the looks of this remote a lot. And a very impressive mod to make it JP1-able. Does anyone know the size of the EEProm? Any idea how hard it will be to adapt the 8910/9910 extender for this guy?

I mean still in production. I know I can still buy 8910s, but if they are out of production then the quantity available is limited to whatever is left over, and may be fairly limited.

I'm just looking to save memory. I don't know why the first upgrade used the Combo2 protocol, since it only uses the one subdevice, and could probably have used the non-combo protocol, as you pointed out. It does sound, from what you said, that I can just modify the first one to either use a non ...

JP1 Remotes in production?

Are there any remotes with the JP1 (as opposed to the JP1.x) interface still in active production? I happen to like the 8910/9910 quite a bit, but as far as I can tell, no one makes them any more. (is that correct?) Does anyone know of a remote like that one that is still being made?

Thanks for the ...

Question on changing a device upgrade's protocol

I'm setting up a remote (8910) that will have 2 Panasonic devices. I found device upgrades for both in the files section, but one uses the Panasonic Combo2 protocol and the other the Panasonic Mix Combo protocol. The first uses device 128, subdevice 0 and the second 144, subdevices 0,1, and 5. Am I ...

Switching to Command Mode 2 (VCR2) was easy enough. Just a matter of changing the device codes to 7 and 185. Everything else was the same. That makes everything work, though it doesn't explain why the Mute discretes are being mistaken for VCR+ by the receiver.

I don't know if the receiver OEM ...

No difference. If I switch the VCR over to Command Mode 2, though, that stops it. I guess I can redo the device upgrade I made for the VCR for Command Mode 2, though the workaround of sending the Mute discretes twice seems to be doing the job.

If you're asking does the same thing happen with the ...

Sony15 (using the Sony 12/15 combo), Device 180, OBC 096.

Thats with both the VCR and OEM remote set to Command mode 1.

Weird.

How's this for strange - both the Mute ON and the Mute OFF commands are interepreted by my VCR (a Sony SLV-696HF) as a VCR+ command. Fortunately, that's a toggle, so sending each command twice will work. Still you'd think Sony would be more careful, wouldn't you?

That did it!

They work perfectly now. I had to delete Device Specific Macros to make room for it, but I wasn't using those anyway.

Thanks, this is great.
