the 15-1994 that is my main remote hasn't deteriorated at all, so I wonder if daily use helps prevent it.

I have 2 15-1994s that have never been used and neither shows any sign of case deterioration. I suspect that it is a batch to batch variation, maybe the release agent used in manufacturing ...
