8910 (new key version) can't communicate with IR
I bought another 8910 remote to get the new discrete nav keys. IR will not communicate with the remote. Has anyone used IR with this remote (please make sure you are responding regarding the new key version). Thanks.

Have you tried it both with the batteries in and with them out?

Rob you've done it again. I tried programming it with the batteries out and it works! I didn't know you could, or should, do it that way. My old 8910 programs OK with the batteies in. What is the best way?
I actually thought the new remote was bad. When I tried to do a factory default reset I got an error message, "Bad E2". Now that I have programmed it with the batteries out, I don't get the error message. So I guess trying to do it batteries in really screwed it up.

The "best way" varies both by remote and the age of the batteries in the remote. Funnily enough, old batteries sometimes work better than new batteries as far as IR is concerned.
As for the "bad E2", it sounds like you are really doing an OPS RESET, not an MFR RESET (which is the full factory reset). To do an MFR RESET, press RECORD after bringing up the on screen menu.

Just curious: what is a new key version of 8910?bigbge wrote:Has anyone used IR with this remote (please make sure you are responding regarding the new key version). Thanks.
And could someone explain the battery situation? I'm picking bits and pieces on the forum and it's looking like a more complicated story than I thought. Program with batteries out

The new 8910 has arrow buttons, the old one has what we call a donut ring instead.
When using the Simple interface, sometimes it works better with the batteries out of the remote, sometimes it's the other way around.
