3 different problems

Post by flynnguy »

Ok, I have a RS 15-2116 remote and I have access to two IBM laptop computers. I tried to make a parallel port cable using an IDE cable with no success. I abandoned this aproach in favor of a purchased cable. (from http://jp1.filebug.com/) I decided to go with the USB version.

So I get the cable and I tried to isntall the drivers on my winXP laptop. When I do so, I have to navigate around a bit... select have disk and select the file for the USBIODS.inf. I get the error:
"The specified location does not contain information about your hardware."

Ok, step 2... try a different computer. This time a windows 98 machine. Plug it in, driver installs just fine. Launch IR.exe and when I try and do the check on the cable I get:
"SDA is being held low. Make sure batteries are installed in the remote."

Batteries are there the little arrow matches up with the notch indicating pin 1 of the remote matching up to pin 1 on the cable.

Ok, so I disable checking and I try a download. This time, after it sitting a while like it's hung up, I get:
"Unable to write to $$DEBUG$$.IR"

Both laptops are IBM thinkpads... one's newer and one's older. I removed SP2 on the XP machine to see if it made a difference... it didn't.

Is there any other tests I can do that would determine if I had a bad remote, cable or computer? Can someone please help me? I don't know what else to try anymore.

Well I brought my cable and remote into work and tried it on someone else's desktop. Apparently the cable and program does not like my IBM thinkpad or my in-laws thinkpad. Does anyone have it working on a thinkpad?
