Extender features

I wonder if it's possible to modify some extenders to add the following features:

On the 6012 v3.3 (actually being used on an 8811), is it possible to eliminate the backlight blinking off while pressing a key?

On the 8910 v1.1, is it possible to keep the LCD display on all the time, or at least extend it's timeout? I wouldn't think it would use much power, unless it involves keeping the CPU running all the time.

I think v2 keeps the backlight on while pressing a button.
