Read the readMe file that comes with the extender.
You can specify a way to do a second kind of shift (called an xshift). Doing xshift follwed by an ordinary key invokes the xs_ meaning of that key.
Haven't you ever used a calculator with two different shift keys? (such as a 2'nd key and "blue" key. Press 2'nd the a key to get its 2'nd meaning or "blue" then a key to get its blue meaning.) That option feature of the extender gives the 6012 the same ability.
On my 15-2104 I use one press of Theater as the shift key and two presses of Theater (technically shift-Theater) as the xshift key.
