Help with Onkyo TX-SR507 receiver and URC-6131n

1. Device: Onkyo TX-SR507
2. Type of device: Receiver
3. Year: 2010
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: URC-6131n Extender
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? Yes
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes, but it's over my head
9. Partially working setup code? Yes, 1298
10. Learning remote question? n/a

Under code 1298 the power button will turn the unit off and TV/VID will toggle through the input sources. Buttons 1-3 do something but I can't tell exactly what.

I downloaded https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=6877 guessing the 607 file would work my receiver. I modified it for my 6131 and posted them here:
http://iamon.com/6131%20Onkyo%20Test.ir
http://iamon.com/Onkyo%20TX-SR507.rmdu

With my test file I get some response from the receiver from a few number buttons but, again, I can't tell what it's trying to do.

I also tried this https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=5699, but when I select the 6131 it says protocol pid: 01 7E (01 7E) is not compatible with the selected remote and I must choose a different protocol.

I've never worked with the combo protocols before so I can't seem to get my head around it. Sorry if I've left anything out. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Kevin

Try this rmdu file. You 'll need to assign functions to buttons. It is similar to audio 1298, but has exact function names. It was assembled from several upgrade files. EDIT: Link deleted to cover up my mistake!

The rmdu file that you are trying to use is based on one that has a number of instances of "n/a" in the device columns. I'm not sure why the file reads into RM that way; but it definitely won't work.

Assuming you get it to work, post the upgrade to the Files Section.

Remotemaster scrambled all of the Devices and OBCs of the KM file you were trying to use. I did a manual translation of that Onkyo TX-SR607 file.

Thanks 3FG and vickyg2003 for you quick responses and better support than most paid services. I used the latter "unscrambled" upgrade, mapped it to my remote and it works perfectly.

This receiver has a powered zone 2 and I think the remote sends the same commands with different device codes. I looked at the upgrade for the 606 which includes both zones but I can't seem to reverse engineer it.

How would I figure out the tweaks I'd need to make for an upgrade that works the zone 2 features?

Again, thanks in advance.

This receiver has a powered zone 2 and ... gineer it.

You are right, the zone 2 appears to just have the device numbers changed, all the function hex is the same.

I'm giving you the teach you to fish answer:

Essentially the "unscrambled upgrade" and the "01 7e upgrade" use different protocols to send the same signal. Think of a protocol as a subroutine. The 01 7e has the parameters in a different order.

Open the unscrammbled upgrade and note the order of each device number.

Then Open the Zone1 from the 017e protocol and see how the order is different.

Then Open the Zone2 from the 017e protocol and copy down the device numbers

Change the order of the device numbers and plug these into the "Unscrabled Protocol" and save it as Zone 2.

Hope that helps.

For the TX-NR907, which should be pretty much the same:

Code: Select all

          --------Zone1------- Zone2 Zone3
Remote ID (1) (2) (3) -- --
SubDev1 109 3 6 17 21
SubDev2 108 4 7 18 22
SubDev3 2 9 10 20 24
Device for all Remote IDs & Zones is 210

I contacted Greg about the problem we had opening the original upgrade, and that issue has been addressed in RM 1.98beta 7.
