Not sure how to get volume codes/upgrade for old Magnavox tv

by ElizabethD
1. Device: Magnavox 20MS2331/17
2. Type of device: TV
3. Year: 2005
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: for 6131n
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? yes but not applicable
6. Still have original remote? NOPE
7. Checked the file section? yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? no
9. Partially working setup code? didn't try any
10. Learning remote question? no
11. Searched Lookup Tool? - YES, and tried all setup codes from the 6131 manual, none returned tv

Don't know how else to find it.
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... ile_id=927
is for Magnavox 27MS343S, NECx1 protocol, device code 14, sub 14
contains for EFC, OBC and Hex
vol up 123 19 37
vol down 119 18 B7
I might try making an upgrade. Should I use NEC1 with Parm 48decimal(30hex), as suggested in 2003, or NECx1 which is now supported?
Is Magnavox consistent enough that these numbers might work?

I like how you added #11 to the template.
Those volume codes you listed are in the Lookup tool (TV/0706) but not in the 6131. TV/0706 is a newer code (that is its in newer remotes). To me the part number along with the vintage looks like it might be worth a shot, but every single one of my Magnavox TV's used the RC5 protocol.
I take it, that the TV is not in your possession. One thing that I have found is that the newer remotes have a lot more built in codes, so you might want to take your comcast remote with you when you get in situations where you need to do a code search.

I think LookupTool should be in the template, though I haven't yet learned all the ins and outs!
Being such an old TV, I wonder if that TV/0706 would even apply. 8910 doesn't have that code in the book either. I can't use Comcast. I ditched their box and had to return the remote. TV is NOT in my posession and at this point 6131n is not either.
Vicky, I don't need their setup either. All I want is to make either a keymove to some code that is in 6131 or just make a tiny upgrade with those 2 buttons. Which is why I asked how best to code using the data in that upgrade file + the NEC1, NECx1 notes.

Well I went to the URCsupport and site and typed in
Brand........Model
Magnavox 20MS2331/17
and they returned TV/0706 should work with this device.
That is the Nec1x 14/14 setup.
The Lookup Tool says there are no Nec1x 14/14 codes to carry a keymove, so you'll need to build an upgrade.

Vicky, I forgot the URC site. BTW I rechecked RC - can't find a thing there.
Anyway, while you worked so hard for me, I made a NECx1 dev14.14 2 button upgrade, pushed it into 6131o and the Widget says it puts out what I want. I'll test tomorrow, pretty sure it'll work on 6131n as well. Thanks you. Looks like there's hope after all

NECx1 with dev14.14 did not work this TV

Perhaps the protocol in the newer remotes is different from what we use.
Perhaps UEI guessed - I don't know how they do their job.
Perhaps I should try NEC1 with Parm set to hex30.
Vicky, This is somewhat OT, not sure where to ask
1. how did you use the LookupTool to land on tv/0706 from the codes I posted?
2. I would like to see LookupTool open in its own window so that the post I'm reading would still be open, something like this on one of the Source lines:
Click <a href="

There are so many ways to get there. I first did a search on TV/Magnavox codes. When I do this I typically change the display order from device codes to protocols ID so that I can find things easier. In this case we had the NECx1 14 14, and there was only the one setup code. The ALT field was blank which indicates there are no other NECx1 14 14 codes in the remote, so keymoves are not usually possible unless there is a combo code that might handle it. Then I clicked on the EFC's tab of the TV/706 and saw the same EFC's that you mentioned in your post. If you click on the BRANDS link off the EFC page it shows you a list of other manufacturer's that use the code. If you click on the number in the remobes column, it will show you all the remotes that contain this setup code and how to access it.
Then there was the UEI Lookup sheet for the Atlas that also returned TV/0706. If I just had that information I would have plugged that in the SETUP Codes window.

Well I right click on the link and open in new tab, so I didn't notice that it doesn't open in a new window. That's for Rob to fix. I know that his link generates a lot of traffic. I'm getting about 1000 unique visitors every month.

Accoding to
this link the 20MS2331/17 uses the same remote as the
27MT3305/17 . It is RC5 device 0, and is similar to TV 0638 and to a less extent TV 0054. Both of these should be in the 6131.

3FG, thanks a bunch. I will try that.
Vicky, thanks for info how you used Lookup Tool.
regarding new window - the point is (for me) to click LookupTool link above the posts and that one click should open in new window without me having to tell the browser to open a new window. I don't know who runs the script, all I see in the script window are the commands that might use that sort of a change. I think you're right. The script runs from Rob. I'll ask in the web issues.

Well if this model uses the RC5, that's two for two lookups using the UEI lookup that gave me bad information. It also said the Atlas didn't have any Electrohome DVD upgrades, when it has 7 of the 8 available upgrades.

The 27MT3305/17 file worked for this 20MS2331/17 model. I used Magnavox 27in TV (27MT3305-17).rmdu you linked to, unchanged for this trial. So it is 0054 protocol.
Thank you very much.
