Problem using the TTL 232-R-WE USB interface

Post by Snubben »

First a great thanks to Rob for fixing my login details so soon!

After several years without a ned for using ir I find I have to reprogram an URC 7950 that's not been in use in the interim.

But I got a problem with the interface. First time I fired up ir, a driver was installed from the web. guess that was ok.

On the ir menu, USB interface is greyed out.

Driver status returns:

The s/p driver is functioning properly.
USB eror:
Unable to find Delcom device driver.

Download from remote returns:

Failed to open JP1.x interface.

...

Jp1.x (Serial or USB-serial) is checked.

What more can I do?

I am using the same files and hardware as before, only difference is another computer with XP, I probably used Win2k before.

Perhaps your problem is related to counterfeit FTDI chips. Last September, FTDI released new drivers which detected counterfeit chips and disabled them by changing the USB VID and PID numbers. After a week or so, FTDI recognized that this was a public relations disaster, and so they released a newer version of the drivers which doesn't work with counterfeit chips, but which doesn't disable them either.

At the present time, Windows will provide these newest drivers, and if your chip is actually counterfeit, the driver won't work correctly. However, you can download and install older drivers. I believe the 2.10.0 drivers are known to work.

Of course, your problem may be something else but I would try the 2.10 drivers.

I installed the 2.10 driver and got this reply:

Completing the Device Driver Installation Wizard reports:

The device driver installation wizard did not update any of your software for your hardware because it was not better than the software you currently have installed.

Below that text there are two green checked lines under the header "Driver Name" and "Status":

FTDI CDM Driver Package - Bus/D2XX Driver (01/27/2014 2.10.00 Ready to use
FTDI CDM Driver Package - VCP Driver (01/27/2014 2.10.00 Ready to use

Would there have been a driver included with the device when I first got it by mail from USA? Should the change I made, from WIn2k to XP make any difference?

Would it be possible to identify and/or uninstall the software that I "have currently installed"?

Would it be of any use to try under Windows7 instead of XP?

ETA: Apparent is of course the bottom line: ir doesn't recognize the precense of the interface.

I gave up on my old cable and ordered parts for the lastest design by Tommy Taylor. But in the meantime I made another try - and lo and behold - I found the right driver at http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

There are two versions listed for XP, and 2.08.30 turned out to be the right one for my XP.

Got the order cancelled.

I am sorry, can't find RDF for the Dreambox 8000HD, URC 39940R02 (10691069).

Not in my old RDF files, and not in what I downloaded from Sourceforge today.

And yet it is a fact that I had no problems with ir and the same remote before, and I have many ir-files saved that I have saved earlier from working with that remote.

So what can the problem be?

I don't think a RDF file has evaporated from the folder so I don't know what to think. I see there's a 39930 file, but no 39940.

I believe I'll have to give up on that one.

Looks right, will try it out tomorrow. But I was wrong, I only had used the Dream 7020 remote (...30) before, not the DM8000 remote (...40)

Great to see it, looks like it may be what I want.
