Where is pin-out of URC-9910

Believe it or not, I have a house full of JP1 programmed remotes but the catch is I am having a senior moment from doing them all 3 years ago. Today I can't even find here where pin 1 is on my 9910. How did I forget this (well I know the answer to that) but why can't I find this easily in any of the guides is the question I will pose today instead :-).

THANKS for all you supporters of this tech do!!!!

I own 3 9910's myself. I do not have one in front of me. I dont think that the pins are marked. I own 2 different kinds of JP1 cables and if you plug it in so that the cable drapes flat towards the bottom of the remote then you should be fine. The remote should be face down of course.

If you look at drawing of the pins in Figure 2 on
http://www.hifi-remote.com/jp1/simple/index.shtml
there is a notch on the corner of the rectangle outline next to pin 1.

If you really can't figure it out, try it both ways until you find which way works. You won't damage the remote by connecting it the wrong way.

But, to answer your question, the 6-pin connector on most remotes has an outline printed around it on the PCB where one of the corners is cut away (so it looks like an old index card). The pin in the cut away corner is pin-1.

Most of the JP1 cables that were made by the original JP1 vendors (ie, Hovis and Filebug) would have the cable flow down away from the remote when connected correctly. (The connector may be the other way around on the cables created by the current JP1 vendors (ie, DIYGadget and issue-resolved).

The black plastic holding the 6 pins on my 9910 has rounded corners on each of the 4 sizes of it, there is no physical difference in any corner or any marking on the board to indicate pin 1 :-(

Now that I think of it, there is a 50% chance I will guess it right (do you factor in how many times you have guessed wrong in the past ;-)

What happens if I get it in upside down? I am using a brand new USB to JP1 connector that just arrived in the mail.

Don't look at the black plastic as that's part of the 6-pin itself and does not indicate the polarity, look at the PCB board around the 6-pin. Sometimes pin-1 is marked with a "1" and sometimes they use the index-card outline that I described earlier.

But regardless, the 6-pin on the URC-9910 is oriented the same way as most other US based JP1 remotes, so pin-1 is in the lower left corner when you hold the remote upright and look at it from behind.

And once again, you WILL NOT damage the remote if you connect the cable the wrong way around.

P.S. I didn't realize the response would be so quick here!!! Before I came back and read the response, I remembered having a stock 15-1994 that I had put back in a closet and used the pin-out of that (nicely labeled on the board). With it and like you say, with the latest USB cable assembly from diygaget, the cable folds upward over the battery pack when the notched pin (red wire) of the USB is attached. Both of the remotes when the ir transmitter is facing away from me with the battery access open and facing up, with the JP1 connector below it, the pin 1 is in the lower left corner.

Thanks for getting me back on track. I just didn't want to burn up my new USB to JP1 converter .

P.P.S. Yes this 9910 has a white index card around the connector! A very thin one but now I see it, thanks Rob. Talk about duhh!!!! (But in my defense, the right side and top line of the thin white outline is covered up with the black plastic JP1 connector :-)
