JP1 Remotes

Hello,

I own a small hotel in London and have been developing an IP TV system. I purchased an Amino 110 set top box which is successfully working as needed. I also bought a cheap "learning remote" as they will be for public use and it refuses to learn the codes from the Amino remote. I have no idea why. I also tried to learn codes on my amplifier remote just as a test and it too refused to work.

I need a solution where I can learn the codes from the Amino remote (I think they might be a special frequency?) and also codes from a TV remote control. I want to then combine them so that channel up/down are the codes of the set top box while volume up/down is the code for the tv. This will give me a nice and simple solution where guests wont get confused and I have only 1 remote control needed.

I understand I would need a JP1 cable + the software. What about learning the IR codes? I would be needing roughly 50 remote controls as well and would want them nice and simple (no multi device switching).

If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

If you can find a source for some suitable JP1 compatible remotes in the UK, all you would need is a JP1 cable and then you would be able to load the relevant codes into the remote and program the volume buttons and channel buttons exactly as you described.

If you can't find a suitable JP1 remote locally, I can probably get some suitable remotes here (in the USA) if you think it would be worth the additional cost of shipping.

Thank you Rob. It is possible to obtain one 4 all remotes here in the uk and I have a couple lying around. I will open and check them for the JP 1 header.

If you can't find an OFA model in the UK that's both suitable and JP1 compatible, I was thinking that the Millenium 4 might be a good choice for you. I could get you 50 of these for about $15 US each. I've no idea how much shipping would be, nor what custom duties the UK lads might slap on it, but it might be doable.

Rob I saw a picture of the Millenium 4. Clearly from the name I assume it can be programmed for 4 devices. Using JP 1 would I be able to put the same mapping for all devices? Because there are people that will press the VCR button and then leave and the next guest will come in saying the remote doesnt work (I know its stupid but I have seen it...)

Can I order from you one of these remotes plus a suitable cable (preferably USB) so I can perform a full test. Once testing is confirmed and working nicely Ill order 50 more? I would not worry too much about shipping. If necessary I will just send FedEX as it wouldnt be such a big box.

Exactly. If you program the exact same setup onto all four device modes, even if the user presses a device button it will make no difference. Plus, if you want to make it extra safe, you could open the remotes and put a piece of tape under the device buttons and the SETUP button, which will not only prevent them from changing modes, it will also prevent them from experimenting with other setup codes, etc.
