JP1 Remotes

Desparately seeking Atlas DVR 5-device remote (with or without Day, but preferably with). MUST have LEARNING enabled and working!

I believe speaker.guy some atlas remotes with learning enabled for sale.

Why is it important that learning be enabled? If you have a cable and any other learning remote then you can learn things with the other remote and build upgrades for the atlas remote.

The 1056 OCAP is often on ebay, and speaker.guy is often buying them and reselling them here.

I agree that if you have a cable and another learning remote that you can get around this limitation, but if you don't have another learner then having a learning OCAP is a good thing to have.

I try to buy these for resale if the price is good enough. Unfortunately, there just haven't been many available lately....

A partial reason you haven't seen as many 1056 OCAPs on eBay the last couple of weeks is I was religiously hunting for them. I snagged a few of them as soon as they showed up. The first one was non-backlit while the last two are. It would be nice to snag a learning version. It seems like someone (mavsarenumber1) has a semisteady supply going on. Counting the new auctions just started today, makes at least 10 over the past two weeks.

His are all non-learning....

The Atlas has the perfect button layout for me, but I require that it have learning enabled because I have a monoprice HDMI switcher that I need to control.

I just snagged an Atlas backlit from that guy. Works fine as far as I can tell so far.

How would someone know if it was learning enabled? (I know you said his are all non-learning).

What are the hardware differences between the learning and non-learning?

Can I make mine learning?

It seems like I saw this answered somewhere, but I can't find it right now. Thanks.

Learning has a -L in the part # silkscreened on the back, and in the battery compartment...

learningis a hardware thing. It's hard to tell without trying to learn something. All of the firmware inside is the same.

There is a long string of characters inside the battery compartment that probably has some designation of learning but I've never been able to really figure that part out.




Remember, in the world of JP1 tools, you really only need one learning remote in your entire collection. Once you learn, you can build an upgrade that you can install in any other JP1 remote. Right now, I have a URC-9960 that I use to learn and install upgrades in my JP1x and JP1 remotes.

I've tried to keep track of the various heretofore-seen Atlas remotes and compiled the info known to me in this chart.

The 1054 and 1055 5-device remotes seem to have no obvious giveaway regarding learning vs. labelling.

Of the 1056 OCAP remotes, I am aware of THREE variants:
(1) Most common is the Black, non-backlit, non-learner with silkscreened label 1056B01 and battery compartment label 1056BG1;
(2) Then there are TWO backlit, learning models:
(a) Black - Silkscreen 1056B01-L; Battery Compt 1056BC1-BLX-XXX-0001-001-R; and
(b) Silver - Silkscreen 1056B01-L; Battery Compt 1056BC1-BLS-XXX-0001-001-R

So the silkscreened -L and internal label's "L" seems to be unique identifying characteristics.

If there are others, I'm unaware of them.

That is what I was hoping. Cap'n, have you opened the cases up and done a comparison yet, between the learning vs. not? I would be interested to know if there is a way to make an OCAP Atlas learning, by adding something.

I didn't buy this Atlas to use as a primary remote, just to experiment on and to test my cables with. I am up for trying to add components.

By the way, Cap'n, is the name a reference to The Stand? I'm a huge fan of my hometown boy Steve.

When I got my first OCAP (a black, non-backlit, non-learner) I opened it up and photographed the hell out of the interior, and described what was there in this post.

The pics are no longer hosted where I had them at that time, but I will try to dig them up and re-post them.

Bottom line, it was trivial to identify where the missing components for backlighting and learning should go, but what those components should be specifically is unknown to me. I have not been inclined to pry open another OCAP remote just to identify those components, since they are pretty hard to pry apart and invariably some evidence of the "breaking and entering" is left behind.

If anybody following this post is inclined to break open their learning Atlas and compare the boards on forum or by PMing me, I would like to know what components may be necessary. Typically, these can be ordered quite cheaply. If the components could be obtained, I would be able to help anyone desiring to make their Atlas a learner.
