Re: Windows 7 x64 with FTDI USB interface == SOL?

jimdunn wrote: 2. If it doesn't, try with the right VCP drivers for your 64 bit OS: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
THAT seems to have done the trick. I swear I'd attempted to install those drivers yesterday, without any luck. However, trying again today, it works.

Many thanks, everyone!

Ya, unfortunately, I get a failed driver in Device Manager. Showing under Other Devices are:

FT232R USB UART
USB-Serial Controller D

Fortunately, I still had an XP box kicking around (for now!), so I was able to get things rolling there.

Sorry 3FG, looks like I have two cables. Just dug up the JP 1.2/3 cable, which is newer, I think. Been a while.

So I think I need to use this latter cable with the remote I have. It is labeled JP 1.2/3.

I'm gathering THIS one uses the FTDI drivers; has a solution been found for these?

thanks!

Windows 7 x64 with FTDI USB interface (solved)

I have a JP1 USB adapter I bought (DG-JP1-U02) from Tommy Tyler years back. Programming (or trying to) a URC-8820 JP 1.2 remote (worked fine under XP).

Now trying to get it working on my Win7 x64 box. It seems the FTDI drivers here ( http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm ) won't work on Win7 x64 ...

Also, I note that 1167 on the 8820 maps to the CD key.

1067 on the 8820 doesn't seem to control the IR543 at all.

Does anyone have a URC-8820 and the UR543? I've entered the built-in X10 code of 1067, but the manual doesn't indicate under which device the X10 code will go. I've tried them all and the LED doesn't light up on the IR543... need to get a new JP1.2 cable to hack this one further, though ...

Hmmm... interesting... THIS upgrade on my 9910 seems to have done *something* at least. I can do all on/off.

Continuing to play with it.

At the very least, I can get the LED to light up on the IR543 with this upgrade, so I don't ...

Is my new IR543 defective?

I just picked up an IR543 to control my X10 devices (I've been using an RF remote, but I want to unify onto one remote, thus the IR543 to handle IR).

I think it's defective, but wanted to verify the proper behaviour here with someone who's used one before.

It does control my X10 devices fine using ...

I understand. Not blaming you. =)

I'm guessing that you overlooked the (prominently positioned at the top of this forum) sticky post titled: Choose the right JP1/JP1.x interface cable - Read this first

I did miss that. I did, however, search for "JP1.2 USB" and that sticky did not come up (nor did I find anything else relevant to ...

USB cable compatibility for JP1.2 / URC-8820

I'd been using a URC-8910 for a while, and bought one of these USB cables to interface with the computer:

http://www.diygadget.com/store/jp1/jp1-x-for-remote-controls/jp1-usb-cable/prod_8.html

Well, I needed some new remotes, so based on this thread I picked up some URC-8820s.

However, the same ...

Serial cable for URC-9910?

I've bought a URC-9910, which apparently (I'm new to this) is an original JP1 interface, not 1.1 or 1.2.

Is there anyplace that sells a JP1 serial cable? The only ones I've seen that are serial are the 1.x version.. my choices either seem to be parallel or USB.

thanks
