Updating extender on RCA RCRP05B

Post by andyross »

I've been using the 1.04 extender, and just realized that the latest is actually 1.05. Do I have to do anything special to update it, like remove or disable the original first?

Best practice is to keep the 1.04 in, deactivate the extender. Then take your 1.04 file and install the new extender into it and upload and activate.

Hmm. I'm using RMIR, and when I try to import the 1.05 extender, it says 'No remote found that matches the merge file.' Is there a way to remove the extender within RMIR so I can update it to 1.05?

you need to put the RDF for the 1.05 into the RDF directory. The tools can tell the difference between the different versions.

I knew I forgot something. It does work, but resets all the devices.

For now, I think 1.04 is OK. I figured out the issue I was having was due to the interruptible pause. I found another post on how to disable that, and now a macro that needed a somewhat long pause works reliably. The memory locations are the same in 1.04 and 1.05.

Yes, it will reset devices. (but device upgrades are in there)

This is due to a bug in Extinstall that had issues with "empty" device IDs, a bug that I never really felt like fixing. I'm sure that when Graham did the work on RMIR to bring in extinstall he probably fixed this, but I distribute the extender with zero for all of the devices so the extender install takes data in the extender and overwrites the data from the original file.
