Hi all,
I have a Comcast Remote, steel grey color, on the label inside the battery compartment, it says: "1167ABC1-0001-R" on the first line and "C131704" on the second line.
Also, on the PCB, right above the 6-pin connector, it's clearly labeled "JP2".
I've seen lots of information on JP1/1.1/1.2/1.3 cables, but from what I have read, none of them will work with a JP2 remote.
So, does a JP2 cable exist? Can I program this remote?
Thanks,

Programming Cable for JP2?

USB cables based on the FTDI chipset do work with JP2 remotes. Generally, ones based on Prolific chipsets don't.
Let's check which kind of remote you have. Use the 983 Command to blink back the signature of the remote. If the signature is 3039, it is JP1.3. If it is 25562, the remote is a JP2. In either case I recommend cables based on FTDI.

It's a JP2..
And the answer is 25562!
Just at the moment, there are no vendors selling completely ready-made flash cables based on the FTDI chip set. But Tommy Tyler has provided some instructions which can be used with a variety of USB to TTL serial cables. No soldering required, and if you're willing to connect 4 wires each time, this cable will work as shipped.
JP1.2/3?
Hi, thanks for that info.
Questions:
I downloaded the Tommy Tyler document, and the title makes reference to "JP1.2/3", not JP2?
So, does that matter? As to the cable source, do I need to use the one you provided, not sourced from Mouser, which is referenced in the Tommy Tyler document? I ask, cause that ebay link seems to source from China, which could take quite some time for delivery. I don't mind paying a few extra bucks if I can source in the US, and get much faster delivery.
Thanks for your help and patience,

Yes, Tommy's instructions work with JP1.4 and JP2 remotes (JP3 also). At the time he wrote the original version, we had no released software support for JP1.4/2/3 remotes.
Getting the part from Mouser (or Digikey) is fine. The part from China is said to include LEDs that light up when TC or RX is signaled, which can be useful at times. But lots of people are using cables without LED indicators.
