FILES : Which place to get them, this site, or Yahoo ?

I have noticed that most links point to the file repository in the Yahoo group. However, I have seen several links like this too :

http://www.hifi-remote.com/files/tools/

So, some files are stored here, but there seems to be no "menu" like there is in Yahoo to reference all the file categories.

Is Yahoo the sanctioned source for files, or is this site the place ?

The link to Yahoo is the best way to go since it will always take you to the correct place.

All files at the link you noticed are also linked to from Yahoo. Not all of the files have been moved to the hifi-remote server.
