Urc 3680 Jp1 interface

Post by rn6299 »

I recently got the urc 3680 remote. It has Jp1 6 pin interface, but because of the case plastic, all i see is JP1. Can't tell if there's more to it. Was wondering if anyone knows and which is best usb type cable to get. Thanks!

It's a JP1.x, so the FTDI cable works perfectly. To get the best out of the 3680 (and 3660/3661, essentially the same remote), you'll need the version of RMIR which is still being tested. There are plenty of threads on these remotes already.

Thank you. Any suggestions as to where I can get an ftdi USB cable with proper 6 pin 3x2 connector?

You can't. They come with either 6 individual one-pin connectors, or a 1x6 connector in a line. What you can get is generally available on Ebay. Make sure it's genuine FTDI or Prolific. Some "compatibles" don't work. But genuine ones aren't expensive.

You might be able to buy a 2x3 connector, but it's like a box of ten or something off Aliexpress.

With 6 individual pins you can tape or glue them together.

I've been thinking that, since two of the end sockets are not used, you can take the wires out of the 1x6 connector, use a junior hacksaw to break it at one of the middle plugs, glue them back to back (flat sides), and you won't need the one that's broken.

For the layout, go to this page:

If you want a cable quickly, you can get the following FTDI cable for $8.99 on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T45CC8K

It comes with a 1*6 connector, so you would need to replace that with a 2*3 connector.

You can get an assorted box of connectors, which includes some 2*3 ones from Amazon for $9.59 here:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077X8XV2J/

That's $18.58 total for a working JP1 cable.

If you're not in a rush, you can get parts cheaper on ebay with shipping from China, like a cable for under $4 here:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/304770404812

Abd the connectors for about $4 here:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/263051820184

That would give you a working cable for about $8.

Rob
Is there anyway to have where to buy the JP1 Cable in an easy to find method on the forum ?
I looked at old articles and then amazon and ebay.
I was just trying to think of someway for someone new to find this info.
Or do we still run into the problem of supplier no longer handling it ?
