Loading File into KM from IR?
Hello,
OK, I finally got the JP1 cable and am feeling liberated. There was no code that worked for my TV (Apex GT-2015) so I created one from scratch (couldn't have don it without Rob's wonderful JP1-easy file) and it works great. I've uploaded it to the yahoo group file area.
However, I'm back to feeling deflated again after that brief moment of euphoria. I have a couple of buttons on my DVD remote that I had to "learn" because for whatever reason, the code worked on all but those three buttons. Now, I would like to take the DVD code and move it over to KM so that I can put the buttons as part of the actual code and use less memory (erasing the need for the learned codes). How do I get the DVD code only to load into KM? I know this is probably a stupid question but I would really appreciate any help you could give in this regard. Thanks a bunch in advance.
Rachel

You can't actually move something from IR to KM. You need to review the learned codes in IR and create a device upgrade from the information in the learned code in KM. Typically, you can get the protocol information from the learned code and then either build it in KM or find another KM upgrade that is the same protocol and build from there.
I assume you have some built-in setup code that operates most functions of your DVD (it would help if you told us which one).
You have learned signals for the three commands missing from that setup code.
You want to copy all the built in data for that setup code to KM, so that you can add the three missing functions and have a complete device upgrade for your DVD.
The general answer is that you can't copy data from a built-in setup code to KM. But there are exceptions and work arounds. For example, your setup code might be in devices4.xls.
Anyway, it probably isn't worth the trouble for three missing functions. It's easier to just replace the learned signals with KeyMoves.
Assuming I've mis guessed some aspect of the issue, please provide a little more detail and you'll get a better answer.

Codes and More info
Sorry, I should have included more ingo. It's an Apex dvd code 0672. if i replace the learned codes with key moves, why would that help? Sorry, i'm just still new to this whole thing. Otherwise, you have the idea of what I'm trying to do. Simply free up some of the learned button memory. If there's a better way to be doing this, I'm all ears! (is RM better than KM, etc.)
Thanks again for your help.

Thanks again for your help.

Here are some reasons replacing learned signals with keymoves would help:
- Keymoves use a different part of memory that learned signals
- Keymoves are much smaller that learned signals. A keymove uses only 5 or 6 bytes, while a learned signal uses 40 or more bytes.
- You can use keymoves on remotes that don't support learning.

VCR/0672 in the devices4 spreadsheet is identical (except for any buttons your remote has that a 15-1994 lacks) to the DVD/0672 that you're using.
So if you want, you can block copy the entire column of functions/EFCs from that entry in device4 to either KM or RM (I assume you know how to select and ^C a large block in Excel).
Rob has a much larger list of the EFC numbers for that DVD here
http://www.hifi-remote.com/codes2/DVD_APEX.shtml
The notes on that page say the EFC codes need to be used with TV/0030, but I can't see any reason they wouldn't work equally well with DVD/0672 or with an expanded version of DVD/0672 built in KM or RM.

Device4?
Thanks so much for all the input. It's a real help.
So sorry to have to ask but what is the device4 spreadsheet? I'd be interested in trying that VCP/0672 code.
Lastly, if I want to build an upgrade for the DVD/0672 from the info on Rob's page, do I use EFC or OFC and what Protocol and Main Device code do I use? The link to detailed instructions doesn't work on Rob's page.
Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks again.

Both the information on Rob's lists of advanced codes and the function codes in devices4 are EFC numbers. So unless you were working from some other source that provided OBC numbers, it will be easier to enter EFCs into KM or RM.
That's part of what devices4 shows you for VCR/0672. It is NEC1 protocol, device 4.varaonaid wrote: what Protocol and Main Device code do I use?
It's probably easier to start with an existing upgrade file. There are a bunch of Apex DVD upgrades at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... /DVD/Apex/
Some of them aren't compatible with DVD/0672. I'm not sure how many of them or which ones are compatible with DVD/0672 but one of them is explictly named DVD-0672 so it's a pretty safe bet at least that one is compatible.

The "shift" button is the same one used for Setup (P, SET, SETUP, MAGIC, etc). To use a shifted button, you press and release shift, followed by the button, unless it's one of the number keys (and an unextended remote), in which case you must press shift twice before the desired numeric button.
