RS 15-2116 Extender2 wierdism with VPT

Post by rdeodhar »

Can someone tell me what's wrong with the way my Devices and Volume-Punch-Through have been setup in an IR file I've uploaded to the Yahoo Files area:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... gurations/
File Name: aaa_ir.IR
Description: 2116-Extender2-VPT-problem

The wierd symtom is that after the device AUDIO has been selected, pressing SAT doesn't change VPT to TV unless SAT is pressed again.

In other words, the SAT device button has to be pressed twice for the VPT defined for SAT to take effect if the previous device selection had been AUDIO. For all other previous device selections the first press of SAT sets VPT to TV as expected.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rajiv

When you press the AUDIO button it binds the SAT button to the AUDIO device.

Then, when you press the SAT button for the first time, it executes the LKP keymove on the SAT button for the AUDIO device that you defined. This keymove sets the volume keys to the AUDIO device and all of the other keys to the SAT device (including the SAT button)

When you press the SAT button for the second time, it no longer executes the LKP keymove of the SAT button (because it is now bound to the SAT device, not the AUDIO device). It eventually finds the macro you defined for the SAT button though, which binds the volume keys to the TV device.

I'm note quite sure what you are trying to do, it looks like you need to change what your LKP is doing on the SAT button.

Also, as a side note, I noticed that the LKP on the SAT button references the SAT button again. This is generally not a good idea because you get LKP's calling additional LKP's and you can get weird behavior doing that depending on how long you hold the button.

You can get around this by having the LKP special protocol call shift_SAT for a short press and xs_SAT for a long press. You can then use DSM on the shift_SAT and xs_SAT to do what you want and have xs_SAT call shift_SAT w/o introducing the problem of having a LKP call a LKP.

Let me know if this makes sense. If you say what you are trying to do, I'll probably be able to give you more specifics.

Wow, you've nailed it!

I had missed those LKPs on the various devices because I don't use them any more. They were left over from earlier attempts to change the AUDIO device's input to different sources. That is, a LKP SAT in AUDIO mode was supposed to change the AUDIO input to SAT. I now use SHIFT-SAT to achieve the same effect. Removing those LKPs fixed my problem.

Thanks a bunch!!
