Tivo "Ratio/Window" command w/15-1994

Post by bigrig »

Okay, I just got a new HD DirecTivo. (Hughes HR10-250)

I used IR5.11, RDFs 1.17, and KM 8.27, with the device upgrade file "Hughes-HDVR2.txt" from the yahoo group files. Copied the protocol and device upgrade out of the KM and pasted into IR.

Every single function works except "Window" - Listed here http://www.hifi-remote.com/cgi-bin2/ueic.cgi?PVR_0618 as EFC 164. And according to this person at the Tivo forums http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/sh ... ost2096544 , EFC 164 corresponds to "Ratio" on our remotes. Just like that person, I cannot learn the Ratio command with my remote.

However, unlike that person (who has a 15-2116), EFC code 164 isn't working for me.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Matt

EFC 164 works for me as well with my URC-6131M. I assigned it to the Angle{Sleep} button.

In situations like this, you might as well just try all 256 possible EFCs to see what they do. How knows, you might also find some other un-documented functions.

Well, it's been documented that EFC 164 is the Window function. It's included in the upgrade file, but doesn't work for me. Why can't the remote learn the function?

When the upgrade file was created, the "window" function was not yet supported by the Tivo software, so it's not surprising that they ended up using that EFC for a different function. As for why you can't learn the signal, I have no idea. But, if we are to assume that the function uses the same protocol and device codes as the rest of the functions, you'll find it easily enough just by checking all 256 possible EFCs.

You can burn through the codes really quickly. While I was on vacation, without my laptop or any other JP1 equipment, I burned through all 256 EFCs for both the TV and VCR that were installed in our unit, in about 10 minutes.

I found the setup button on my URC8810w hard to press when searching through EFCs so I set up a simple macro and assigned the "set" key to the "guide" button (rarely used with my equipment). You obviously can't use it to program the remote but this gave me a nice big button to use when burning through EFCs and for selecting shifted keys. (I put startup macros on shifted device keys but found the recessed "set" key at the bottom of the remote very inconvenient -- this works on my 8810 and 6131).
Just call me Zaphod (or Steve) --- I never should have started using numbers in a screen name but I just can't stop now.
