Favorite Channels Keys URC-6131

I am using one of these remotes, unextended, modified by Rob and am very happy with it. I would like to surf some favorites channels, say 5-10, but not in the usual way. I would like to put each channel on a specific key under a device. This 'surfing' device would allow me to go back and forth during commercials between several channels. I am willing to do the extender thing and have actually been looking for an excuse.

Thanks for this forumn and all the work/abilities it required. It is fun and very useful. A great combination!!!

All you need to do is create macros that enter the desired channel numbers.
You can use the TV device, or if you want another one just assign the same setup code as you are using for TV (make sure to also change the device type to TV). There are a number of keys on the 6131 that could be used:
Any of the transport keys (play, fast-fwd, pause, rewind, stop, record, prev-track, next-track, slow-mo) or the PVR keys (Thumbs Up/Down, PVR Menu, instant replay, advance) among others.

Just create macros that type in the desired channel numbers, possibly including an enter if that works better with your TV.

You do not need the extender for this.

Macros are global. Dave wants macros that will only be active in a certain device mode, so he needs to use the DSM (Device Specific Macro) special protocol, available from the special protocols spreadsheet which is in the special protocols folder.

However, due to the fact that the 6131 uses the new format for it's keymoves, this is a whole lot more tricky to set up on the 6131. Basically, you need to create an upgrade that contains all of the DSM hex code, then you need to make keymove copies from that upgrade. I know that wasn't very clear but I can't think of a really easy way to explain this complicated process.

Thanks for the help. Rob you didnt mention using an extender, but that would be the way to go wouldnt it? I see it has a device specific macro protocol to it. That way all I have to do is figure out and install the extender and I will be doing a routine upgrade vs a tricky one. If you say its tricky I want to pass on it if possible!
