adding another Dish 508 sat to 8811

Post by velocity »

I am adding another Bell 5900 sat receiver (Dish 508/510) to my 8811 remote. I got the latest Keymaster, loaded my old Dish 508 file, changed the unit code, did a copy and paste to IR. Now I have two CBL/SAT 1775 devices in the IR device list that differ only by the fixed data number (00 00 and 80 00) . The first 5900 is mapped to CBL and the second to Aux. How do I map these different devices to their respective device keys. Can I change the device code number? I thought that I might change the code from 1775 to 2775 but that is out of range. Can I rename it 776 for instance?
I am also running short of room for key moves.

You MUST give each upgrade a unique setup code. The valid range for code numbers is 0000 thru 2047. You can use any code number you like, just so long as it's not the same as a built in setup code that you are using.

You could call the upgrades 2001 and 2002 for example.

thanks - I see that this is just a label.
After adding the additional receiver, I am out of upgrade and keymove space. Is there a more efficient way ( a JP1 way) to use the learning space for extra functions? I have stripped out every macro and keymove that I can live without.

How have you managed to use up all of your upgrade space? Do you have alot of special functions, etc loaded? If not, there's no good reason why you should have run out already.

If you have really used it all up, you should consider installing the extender as this will let you reclaim alot of the learning memory for upgrades and keymoves.

Usually, I would put my upgrades in the 0900 range (on my 6800+)
When I progammed my 8017, I numbered my TiVo upgrades 1000 higher that their stock ones, and my Starchoice upgrades 1000 and 1001 higer (for my address 2 and 1). I think my DVD is 300, C-band Sat/901, A/V switcher audio/902

Using the extender

Post by velocity »

To answer Rob's question: The 8811 uses a lot of key moves to get the transport controls of a PVRand I have three PVRs. My 8910 handles these upgrades with very few keymoves and has tons of space left over. The same upgrades won't fit on an 8811.
OK so I will use the extender. As a quick over view, I take my overstuffed 8811 file that won't fit into my remote (8811ver11), remove any non-standard protocols, process it with install2k2.bat, load the processed file (8811ver11ext) into IR, make any changes, upload to remote, press the power to start the extender.

Could you post your 8811 IR file so i can take a look at it. If you are using keymoves to program the transport keys, it seems to imply that youa re using the wrong device mode for these upgrades.

Do you still have the KM files you used to create your upgrades? If so, could you zip them together with your IR file and load that. I can easily get rid of at least half of the keymoves you are using.

8811 with 3 PVR upgrades and no space

Post by velocity »

Rob
I have uploaded the 8811 IR file plus the 3 satellite KM files (with the high key move count) in a zipped file. I should mention that I started with a 7800 in 2002, then went to a 8910 and finally to an 8811. I have simply loaded the previous KM sheets into the latest version of KM - of which there are many. So I never started from scratch. S these files started life as 8910 upgrades. However KM has never complained and the upgrades all worked.
