What is a Misc "odd" Learned Signal?

Post by banjo »

Hello,
I have a combo DVD/VCR that I am trying to program the 9910 remote for. I found a very close upgrade and finally got that installed. The upgrade works, but I few needed buttons are missing. I learned the buttons and then downloaded them with IR.exe. However, my problems are two fold.
1. I cannot figure out which numbers to use. The decoded learned signals present several numbers in a list for Hex and EFC. The stated numbers are separated by the word OR. Does this mean any number of these numbers can be used? Or is the decoder getting conflicting numbers? Under the Misc column is the word "ODD". Does this indicate some sort of ODD parity report? Or the software making a observation that it finds my learned signal to be 'odd'. Any tutorials specifically on decoding learned signals available on the web?.
2. The learned DVD mode button is listing a format of RC5 while the actual DVD portion of the remote is RC6. (This remote seems to send RC5 for VCR commands and RC6 for DVD commands.) Assuming that I can figure out #1 above, can I send an RC5 command while in DVD, aka RC6 mode? How would I do this?

I repeated the learning process several times hoping that it was only a faulty capture. However, I get the same result every time. I took a guess at which numbers to use and modified the upgrade, but the button does not work. However, pressing the L1 key does operate the function, so the captured signal is accurate.
Thanks.

If you are building an upgrade including that command, don't use any of those EFC or hex numbers. Use the OBC number instead and KM or RM will compute the right EFC and Hex command.

If you are creating a keymove to define that signal based on an existing setup code, the decoder can't know which EFC number is correct. It depends on the fixed data of the setup code that the keymove will be based on. You may need to try each one (for some fixed data values, more than one of the three choices will work).

In RC5 and RC6 protocol, each command has two versions. The two versions mean the same thing and an upgrade or keymove will generate both versions (alternately as the original remote would). A learned signal is only one of the two versions and the decoder is telling you which one. But that information is rarely needed.

There are a number of choices for working with combo devices and combinations of protocols. The simplest choice for this function is to use a KeyMove in DVD mode based on the setup code you will be using for the associated VCR. If you are building an upgrade for that VCR setup code, you can use KM or RM to compute the right EFC number rather than find it by testing the three choices the decoder gave you.
