Like you said, it's just a stupid title.
...totally ignore that rediculous, demeaning title that you got.
I'm not in favor of any crazy Titling scheme based solely on number of posts.
Jim, please calm down. You've got to realize that this is just the way the software works, and that Rob assigned the titles to each category long before you reached the "postaholic" threshold. Insulting Mark for doing his job as moderator isn't constructive; he had nothing to do with it. Many other BB forum software packages work the same way, and I think it is refreshing that Rob didn't default to mundane titles such as "novice" when he set up this forum. Look on the bright side, and we'll all be waiting for what Rob has in store for us when you (or someone else) breaks above the postoholic threshold.

Mark,

2 Posts down, from your "two weeks ago" link, on Nov. 24 you said: "Nope... that's a special Title assigned by Rob (or any Admin). It doesn't change based on post count like normal users' do."

Dec. 9 you said: "The user titles you're referring to are automatically assigned by the forum software at various post count milestones. The exceptions are Advanced and Expert which can be assigned to anyone by Rob (and myself if he ever asks)."

Anyone, even an idiot like me, can see that those two statements are a contradiction. That link was meant as a warning to Nils. You said that I got it as a "special" assignment and it wasn't built in the system, with the obvious implication that either you or Rob (since you clearly stated that ONLY the two of you can do it) had done that especially for me, and it wasn't automatic based on post count. Several weeks later you change your story and say it is built in. Which of those two are we to believe? If I had to GUESS, Mycase was a special case and invented for me, and then the "rules' were changed to include others based solely on post count. Steve then later hit into that.

At one time you said you could change it, and I never asked you to did I? Fact is, I never even noticed the change until AFTER Rob pointed it out in another post on another topic. (The I need to join posters anonymous jab). Thanks for the Link, I couldn't find the post where you made that Nov.24th statement without it.

Jim

Agreed.
even though I am retired... Noone said "Mr Lancelot".
You're not that old that you know this from first-hand knowledge, are you?
How about:

Expert: for the experts
Specialist (not as good as Expert but better than Advanced): for Nils

Novice: 0 posts
Amatueur: 50 posts
Apprentice: 100 posts
Proficient: 150 posts
Advanced: 250 posts
Master: 500 posts
Grand Master: 1000 posts
Messiah: 10,000 posts (just kidding)
The problem isn't what the titles are, per se... it's their connotation. Someone can have 250+ posts and still not know what they're talking about in terms of JP1. Certainly, they're not Advanced by any means.

In my experience, even newbies can usually figure out who's who on any forum like this. There's the windbag's that post just for the sake of posting, and there's the people who truly know what they're talking about and/or can give useful advice. It's a BIG difference if you ask me.

The bottom line is that even though I like your list, and you obviously put some effort into compiling it, it still doesn't solve the problem Jim, et al, is having.

Only an idiot like you could not read them for what they said! :x

You said in reply to Nils:
jamesgammel wrote:I suppose your rating will upgrade from advanced to postaholic as well.
To which I replied to you:

Were you not referring to Nils "Advanced" title in your post? I just pointed out that Nils rank of "Advanced" was a special title, and could only be assigned by an Admin. It's no different than my "Expert" title (which I did not ask for, nor do I feel I deserve... others here can run circles around me; all I do is maintain a spreadsheet). "Postaholic" is exactly where I'd be if Rob hadn't changed it. Would it bother me? No!

You're making a big deal out of nothing, and you're slamming me for no reason whatsoever in the process.

I do not appreciate it, nor do I deserve it!!!

Like most things, you've twisted and convoluted the obvious :!:

Hey, I knew him when he was known as Sir Lance-a-little,-and-only-on-weekends. :)

and all Orville and Wilbur did was design a plane. :) IMHO KM is an amazing piece of work.

Hey, I am a newbie to Excel, how do I see the VB and formulas and other stuff that go on behind the scene in a spreadsheet? I want to see how protocol builder works. Other than unlocking the spreadsheet, I have not gotten very far with it.

It is... but you need to thank Rob for that, as he originally wrote it.

I have an idea... Scary huh

Why don't we just do away with the milestone titles all together instead of trying to reinvent them.

I would suggest that the "Experts" remain as "Expert" and EVERYONE else is "Member". Not knowing how the software works I guess "Member" could just be assigned to all milestones.

I would recommend doing away with ALL titles but I do believe that the experts should be recognized for their overwhelming contribution to jp1.

Oh no!!! Quick, hide the children!!!

It looks like Rob changed "Postaholic" to "Forum Regular" (achieved at 200 posts). There are no other ranks beyond that at this time. Hopefully, that will solve the problem.

I just want to repeat that the term "Postaholic" was meant to be funny, and was not intended to single anyone out. Most of all, is was NOT meant to be demeaning.

Let's think about the typical JP1 user. They come here, do what they need to do, maybe ask a question or two, and move on. They might come back in a few months when they get a new device. People that attain 200 posts (especially as fast as most of us have) certainly are "Postaholics". We're not casual users by any means. As John said the other day, we're the poster example for "get a life"! ;)

So, maybe Rob could add another rank for 500 posts titled Get a life ? 8) Hey, wait a minute, I resemble that remark!

We've started using Announcements to post availability of new software releases. These seem to stay at the top of the forum, so that should take care of the problem with having to scan pages and pages to find out what the latest release is.
