what to do now?

This is the JP1 beginners forum. There's no such thing as a stupid question in here, so post away, but this forum is just for JP1 users and people considering JP1, non-JP1 users please use the appropriate forum above!

what to do now?

Post by nikeman »

I had my parents remote all programed and working great until a couple months ago when lighting hit close to the house. THe lighting blew up their TV, computer, surround sound, and DVD players. They have since bought a new TV and a new surround sound system but now of course the remote does not control the surround sound. It still worked for the TV because its the same brand as the old one I guess. They have also bought a new computer. The problem here is that the JP1 cable I has the plug that looks like a printer plug, and the new computer does not have a slot to fit it. I also lost all of the programs I had on there old computer that I need to put the codes in the remote. What can I do about not having the port for the Jp1 and where can i get all of the programs I need again?

Also, the new surround sound system is a Sony DAV-HDX275. Maybe someone has the code for that already?

Thanks!

P.S. is it possible to get the new code in the remote for the surround sound without the Jp1? I have the One For All 8910

If the new computer doesn't have a DB25 parallel port (ie, the old printer port) you should buy a JP1 cable.

The guy that you PM'd is Tommy Tyler, he's legendary in these parts because he invented all of the JP1 cables that are out there, and yes, he's also the cheapest supplier.

he never replied back to me so I dunno... I saw somewhere that the 8910 are upgradeable via phone? How is this done and do I need the code before I call?

Apparently you PM'd Tommy asking him which cable you should buy rather than just placing an order. Tommy will ignore PMs like that as it's your responsibility to decide which cable you need. As he says in his 'for sale' thread...

So, for your URC-8910, you need a conventional JP1 USB cable (ie, not a JP1.2/3 cable). If you PM Tommy again with all the info required to place an order, he will respond.

Once you have decided what you need, send me a PM containing the following information:

■ Your email address
■ Your name and postal mailing address
■ A list of exactly what you want to buy.

If the e-mail address, mailing address (exactly as it should appear on the package), and list of items to be purchased are not in the PM you may not receive a reply because I generally don't have time to respond to PMs. If all the information is there I will immediately send you an email confirming the total price and telling you how to make payment via PayPal. (Sorry, but I am not setup to take checks or credit cards.) I will also tell you if there are any expected delays due to temporary parts shortages so that you have the option of delaying payment. I usually ship several times each week, so most orders go out within a few days of PayPal notifying me that payment has been received. I'll also send you an email when I ship the material so you'll know it's on the way.
