URC-8800 Tablet Remote

Post by mdavej »

I thought this was interesting. Looks like One-for-all now has something to compete with iRule and Global Cache.

Anybody have one of these yet?

So this is a device that picks up data over IP and shoots out IR signals like an IR repeater? I've been contemplating buying a new AV receiver that can be controlled over ip, and the idea of being able to control zone 2 via an app on the smartphone, or tablet. Way too cool.

I wonder if this might be a solution to that crazy JVC black saphire with the full QWERTY keyboard.

Yeah, iRule and Global Cache works the same way. This looks more limited but cheaper. I don't see why it couldn't do QWERTY. Logitech has a similar system in the now obsolete Link and the new Smart Control and Ultimate remotes.

I think it must be a brand new product since I don't see if for sale anywhere yet.

I use IP control currently with my Home Theater PC using an iPad or Android tablet. It works very well, full QWERTY, mouse, transport controls, you name it. But there is no IR involved, hence no extra hardware in this case, just a free app.

Maybe they're just going green, recycling old numbers ;-)

Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.
