Strategy for upgrading extender?

Post by sleung »

Hi,

I've been experiencing the same problems with extender 3_1 for the 8810 as others have reported, and have been working around it by dropping the voltage on the remote. But now I would like to upgrade my configuration to Nils' version 3_2 of the extender.

My question is: What is the best way to transfer my config from
the 3_1 extender to the 3_2. My current configuration is saved as
a .IR file. I am using IR 5.15

* Rebuild the configuration from scratch? Starting with an unextended, no macro .txt file? Is there a way to transfer my macros and keymoves from my current config?

* Save my extended config to back to a IR .txt format, and rerun extinstall using the new RDF, .hex files for 3_2? Does this work?

or is there some other method that's quicker and reliable?

thx,

Sherman

ExtInstall usually needs both RDF files. I don't recall if the signature is the same for those two extender versions, nor do I remember if the RDF file is different. If the signature is different or if the RDF file is identical than running ExtInstall is straightforward (it finds the RDF the ordinary way).

If the signature is the same but the RDF contents are different you must put the source .txt and .hex files in two different directories with the correct RDF for each in the same directory with it.

Other than that issue, Extinstall is supposed to make that sort of transition simple. Try it. (You'll still have a backup if it fails).

It is the same RDF so it is pretty straight forward.
