Help with Extender for URC 8811 B00

And I am having a hard time figuring out which extender to use. I guess I don't know the size of my EEPROM? How do I figure that out?

You more than likely have a 2k EEPROM so I would use this one 6012ex3_2.zip

Ok, I think I'm all ready to go.

I'm trying to use an extender because I want to be able to hit the SAT device button and have it turn the receiver to satellite input and switch the remote into SAT key mode. Same thing for DVD, hit the DVD device button and have the receiver turn to DVD input and switch the remote into DVD key mode.

Am I correct in assuming that an extender will allow me to do this?

Is there an example somewhere I can follow?

If so, how do I 'restore' my remote back if I mess it up...do I just load up the .ir file I created using ir.exe and upload it back to the remote?

Yup, the extender will let you do that. It is pretty intuitive in the macro tab of IR after you install the extender so give it a try and post any questions you might have after trying it.

And yes, first download your current setup to IR and save it. Then if you want to switch back to it you just upload it to the remote.

That was so easy!

Everything I have wanted to do with my remote, I am now able to do.

I have to say..this JP1 stuff is AMAZING!

I guess I have to come up with bigger and better things to try

So far, the only problem I have run into is that my macro for turning on the receiver and the TV is a little glitchy. Sometimes the TV turns on/off, and sometimes it doesn't.

Here are my macros, the Home_Theater is the button I use for powering up both receiver and TV with a macro:

Power macros are hard to get working correctly unless your devices have discrete on & off commands. Does any of your equipment have these?
If so, may I suggest using an LKP (Long Key Press) for your power macro. I use the short press for on and the lonk press for off. My receiver (an Onkyo) has a discrete off but not a discrete on. My TV (Samsung DLP) has both, but sometimes it takes 2 discrete ons to get it on, So my short press is X_TV;DiscreteOn;DiscreteOn;X_AUD;Power;X_CANCEL
My long press is X_TV_DiscreteOff;X_AUD;DiscreteOff;X_CANCEL

Even if the receiver doesn't come on with the first try, we can just try again and the TV will stay on.

I'm trying the TOADTOG protocol outlined in Alexander Fichman's 6012 Extender.doc.

I'm finding it a bit overwhelming seeing as how I'm so new at this.

The instructions are ok at first but quickly become very complicated. Is there a more newbie-friendly guide with examples that anybody can recommend?

Receiver: Discrete ON/OFF (Yamaha 0176)
VCR: Discrete ON/OFF (Sears 0067)
SAT: Power toggle only (EchoStar 0775)
TV: Power toggle only (RCA 0047)
DVD: manual power switch (Xbox 0522)

I would leave the SAT on all the time. Turning it off doesn't really turn if off, it just puts it in stnadby mode, and only slightly decreases power consumption. So, since you can't turn the DVD on or off anyway, the only component you are now worried about that doesn't have discrete power is your TV. So, I wouldn't use TOADTOG at all. If the TV doesn't turn in, just press the button you have your "power on" macro on again. It'll send the TV power toggle, and the RVR discrete on, so the only thing that'll change is the TV.

All I have to do now is make a Power Off All button. I was HOPING to make my power button turn everything on with a LKP.

Is that still possible or should I just forget it?

I like having an LKP on the power button. I use the short for on and long for off. If my one toad device doesn't turn on when I use it, I just press it again.

To attach an LKP on all device modes to the power button, here's what I did:

Keymove the TV power command to an unused button in TM mode. For example phantom1
For evey device, keymove the discrete On command to the phantom1 button.
For every device, keymove the discrete off command to the phantom2 button
Create a global on macro on shift-power (make sure you use the temporary device selection keys . Putting it here allows you to test it easily without the LKP, so if you have problems you can narrow it doen to the LKP or the macro.(X_*))
