I'm new to the site and may be confused. I've spent 3 days trying simply add a brand new Tivo Series 2 control to my brand new 8910. I know I'm missing something. I downloaded the config from the remote new and saved it. I then went to the file section and I've tried the Tivo2.txt, the phillips tivo, some tivo extender files. Then take these files into the program to get the hex upgrade codes. There seems to be one protocol upgrade and one code upgrade. I add these two upgrades to my config and send the upgrade in. I'm able to communicate with the Tivo, but the buttons don't map to the right items. They're not even close. When I look at the mappings in the file I'm uploading, all looks good. I must be missing something. I know I can't be the first person to want Tivo control on an 8910. Any help would be appreciated......

I am using Remote Master. I open the program. I then open the Tivo2.txt file. I do get an error when it opens that the remote is not known and to select one. I select one and then I verify that the 8910 is selected as the remote in the top menu. Looking at the mappings, it appears pretty straight forward. The arrows are mapped as arrows. The numbers to numbers. However when take the protocol and code upgrade and import them into the remote. i assume the arrow buttons should navigate me around, but they don't. I've tried to use vcr type buttons for fast forward and play, etc. But nothing seems to be mapped correctly. I have what I guess is the standard little Tivo "Peanut" remote....
Thanks for the help.

You need to select the closest match to the remote in the dialog ("Sony TiVo"). In this case, I believe you need to select the Sony TiVo RMT-V303. Then after the file is loaded in RM, you select the 8910 from the Remote list.gkotlin wrote:I do get an error when it opens that the remote is not known and to select one. When RM asks you to pick a remote while importing a KM upgrade, it is asking you to pcik the remote that best matches the remote originally used to create the upgrade, which the upgrade calls "Sony TiVo". In the case of the TiVo2.txt file, that best match would be "Sony Tivo RMT-V303". Once you do that, you can then change the Remote at the top to be the remote you are using. At that point you should get a warning that there were some lost function assignments, because the Sony remote has some buttons for which there are no corresponding buttons on the URC-8910. You fix that by assigning those functions to other buttons using either that button tab or the layout tab. Change the protocol from "TiVo (advanced)" to "TiVo (official)" and you won't even need a protocol upgrade.
Note that the URC-8910 has pretty good builtin support for TiVO using the VCR/0618 or SAT/1142 setup codes, so you don't really need a device upgrade at all. Any missing functions can be handled with keymoves using the advanced codes (aka EFCs) listed at http://www.hifi-remote.com/cgi-bin2/ueic.cgi?PVR_0618

Well.... I swear I've tried that same scenario a bunch of times in this process. But it works! Thanks so much. It must have had something to do with what I was picking as a remote for the starting point. Now I just have to learn to setup macros and reasign a few keys......
