toadtog help

Post by just4fn »

I am trying to Learn how to use toadtogs. I have actually gotten them to work. I just have a couple of questions.

1. what are the toggle numbers for? Are they for each individual device so they are independent?

2. under what instance would you use the toggle/ test condition?

3. are toadtogs used only for discrete on/off?

Thanks for the help, Doug

1) each toggle # is an independent state bit you can manipulate between
On and Off, test for On/Off, and perform actions based on the state.

2,3) it is an arbitrary state bit, so you can use it for anything your
imagination can dream up. You can lock your remote so the kids don't
mess things up. You can implement discrete on/off.

The way I currently use toggle/test condition is for a custom volume
punch through. Most of the time, I listen using the builtin speakers
on my television because it is more convenient. However, sometimes
I like to listen through 5.1 sound on AV receiver. Normally VPT configures
the volume buttons for the TV. However, I have a "HT Receiver" button
I press to turn on the AV receiver and select the proper input for the TV.
Once that is done, I set a bit that tells the remote it is in HT mode.
Whenever I select TV, the macro which sets the volume buttons tests
the "HT mode" bit and sets the volume to TV or RCVR accordingly.

I use the Toggle/Test function because I don't want to change the state,
just interrogate the state. I only want to turn on/off "HT mode" manually
through a specific action on my part.
