7562 extender menu and VPT query

How could I alter the 7562 extender so that Menu Mode is triggered by any numeric key as well as by Menu or one of the arrow keys?

Am using 7562 extender with Menu mode ON and VPT set to TV. Works very well in that this allows me to use central (Mute/Enter) key for mute by default and as Enter key after I press a menu button (Menu, arrow key). I often change channel on my digital set-top box by typing in the number of the channel; I can then press Enter to immediately switch to that channel or have to wait about 4 seconds until it changes itself. As it stands, when I press Enter I get Mute because the numeric keys don't trigger Menu Mode and the key remains in VPT mode.

I note the lines in the source file (.ASM) where it looks for key >= 120 but am a bit lost as to how to proceed.
