built a microperf interface - downloads ok, but no upload

Post by patters »

I have a URC8060 (Kameleon 6) and I chose to build a microperf interface from here:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/jp1/micro-perf/index.shtml

It seemed to be the best choice because it powers the remote, meaning I didn't have to buy one of the more complicated dedicated Kameleon parts from hovisdirect that hold the batteries in while allowing access the the JP1 connectors.

I built the interface without incident, using a phone cable and a 2x5 IDC connector into which I placed a 2x3 pin header. To ensure a good contact with the holes on the remote I splayed the pins out a little. I can download the config from the remote ok. However when I try to upload I always get one of several errors 103, 102, and 105 - all relate to there being no response from the remote. I've checked the soldering as far as possible and I have checked continuity of each wire from the board to the pins in the IDC connector.

I have now discovered that it's corrupting the EEPROM during these failed upload attempts (subsequent downloads have a checksum error) and I have to factory reset the remote to cure it.

So, how would I troubleshoot this? The instructions for that interface design do state that I should be able to write the EEPROM without the batteries inserted - but is this definitely true for this model of remote?

Anyone have any suggestions?

"Good" contact isn't that easy with the Kameleon 4 and 6 (URC8040, 8060) when using rigid pins. You need something with a bit of give such as pogo pin connectors or spring connectors. I have described a spring connector interface in the File Section here and there are sellers of pogo pin connectors mentioned in this forum but I'd recommend that you search the forum and see if there are good or bad comments about a particular seller.
