Discrete with Force Remote (ToadTog maybe)

I would like to make a macro that turns off all my appliances, so I need to simulate several discrete codes (for my JVC Harddisk Recorder, my Logitech Surround and my Grundig DTR, I have the discrete codes for my Sony tv and my Force sattellite reciever).

I guess I have to go the ToadTog way, but I am completely in the blind here. My remote is the Force Remote URC-39720 B00-05 (ETPSTPSO) which I havent been able to find any extender for. I tried searching for a tutorial for this but it either seems very remote specific or only usable with extenders.

On a sidenote, is a long keypress an option or does the remote have to support that from the beginning ?

Yes i actually did a LOT of searching about toadtog but as you said yourself later in that exact thread

(1) Rob's link takes you to a standalone TT for the RS 15-1994. I'm not sure that it is directly importable to the URC-8910;

Im using a not so common remote (URC-39730) so i figured a TT for 15-1994 wouldnt be useable for my remote.. that was actually the reason i didnt go for that link

OK, well I'm no expert, but what's the harm in trying that protocol out? If it doesn't work, then you just upload your last good IR image and resume.

ToadTog (and other special protocols" rely basically on two things happening in the remote.

The first is that there is "free" register around that you can use to keep the ToadTog status. Generally, stuff in the B0-BF range aren't used, but that's not a guarantee.

The second, and more important, is that the remote loads the entire length of the keymove that has created the ToadTog after the fixed data in the lower part of the register file. (the hex code is located generally at R03) This is true for most of the older remotes but not true for some of the newer remotes (which is one of the hassles in making the 6960 extender work right!)


But like cap't trips said, try it out and if it doesn't work, upload your old IR file and you're no worse off than before you started.

Examining the Force and RS 15-1994 rdf's side-by-side (in Notepad), they definitely use the same processor, and appear to have the same memory map, so I would wager you've a better than even chance that the 15-1994 ToadTog protocol will work for you.

I've never used TT without the extender, so I make no guarantees, but here's what I would do:

(1) Open the rdf for your remote in Notepad and add ToadTog to the [Special Protocols] section:

(3) Then try to build your ToadTogs in the Special Protocols tab as outlined in the linked post. If it works, great. If not, post your results and one of the experts will point out how I messed you up

I have now been struggling a great deal with toadtog the last week and have come to one of two conclusions. I am either missing something in my setup or this is not compatible straight out of the box (or at all) with the 15-1994 toadtog protocol and Force.

I tried with numberous attempts and setups but will try to sketch the simplest setup so please tell me if im doing something wrong here :

I did as Capn Trips suggested above. Then I made a Key Move of the original Power on SHIFT-Power ($83] and made a toadtoag command in Special Protocols on button 1 (to keep it simple) that should use toggle 0, flip state bit (to be able to track state) and send SHIFT-Power (regardless of state) ($01 83 83). I get no reaction from my device when I press button 1. Am I missing something ?

If this is not working because 15-1994 toadtog and Force arent compatible and my only other option is to use the standalone toadtog, I have a few additional questions regarding the Register and DATA part of the ASM file, but as I would really prefer to make it work with this 15-1994 toadtog protocol I will wait with asking those untill im sure the standalone version is the only possible way to go.

Being that the Force remote isn't really a mainstream JP1 remote, I'd suggest you look into getting another more widely supported JP1 remote, especially if you really want to tweak and fine-tune it with advanced JP1 things like special protocols and/or extenders.

Being that the Force remote isn't really a mainstream JP1 remote, I'd suggest you look into getting another more widely supported JP1 remote, especially if you really want to tweak and fine-tune it with advanced JP1 things like special protocols and/or extenders.

I have been using this Force remote for my TV, VCR and ofc receiver ever since I bought the Force receiver many years ago (5 years ago i think) and this is truly the best remote I have ever held in my hand (and rest of the family feel the same way). It fits like a hand in a glove and the button setup is the best I have ever seen on a remote. Its logic, intuitive and just feels completely right. Might be a bit strange to praise a remote this way but seign this is a remote forum I guess im not the only one here feeling strongly about a remote . Dicovered this site a few months ago and realizing my beloved remote was a JP1 remote and what I could do with it, didnt make me love it any less.

Agreed, my remote is not very common here and it surely lacks Device Buttons and other things but thats what im making up for by using speciel protocols like multiplexer and device combiner etc (btw got a problem with dc, will make a post later ). And if it boils down to either not beign able to use toadtog or getting a new remote ill give up on toadtog (for now at least).

But.. I should be able to get the standalone version of TT to work on any JP1 remote (including the force remote), right ?

Also, although it's a longshot, but if you upload the IR file that you've made and doesn't work properly, perhaps someone can see a simple error in the way you set up your TT function. It's not unheard of.
