Need help with RCRP05B

Post by fredo55 »

Several years ago I bought two RCA RCRP05B remotes to control an LG tv, Dish sat, Marantz avr, and Sony DVD. Luckily everything worked fine using the remote codes (user manual) and then using RMIR for some macros. Except for some contact cleaning the control currently works very well.
The second remote was kept as a backup until I decided to program it for a friend. The first thing I did was reset 980/981 and try to set up an RCA RT4038 TV using the codes in the remote manual, none of them worked, I also had no luck with the code search function from the remote manual.
I look forward to any suggestions, thanks

I've never heard of that model RCRP058 and can't find any references to it online. But if it has learning capability, then just learn the commands from the original remote.

Do you mean RCRP05B? If so, that's a pretty common remote, with learning. I have two of them myself.

Sorry, you are correct it's RCRP05B with learning capabilities, but I don't have the original TV remote, the provided RCA 4 digit codes are not working.
As a test, I loaded my backup files and everything works fine at home with this remote. Again, what can I do to learn a different TV (RCA RT4038)

In RMIR, download from the remote, then go to the Devices tab, click new, then Open the file below, map any missing functions as desired on the Buttons tab, then click Ok, and assign to the TV device. Also in Other Settings on the General tab of RMIR, set all vol and chan dev to the TV device, turn off all setup code locks, and set everything else to NO (probably already the default setting). Then save and upload to the remote.

Actually, built in code TV 2256 (Proscan) should work.

@fredo55 says he effectively tried all the built-in codes and none of them worked. Am I reading that wrong? Just curious.

He must have done something wrong because the above is a match.

Should have worked. Make sure punch through is set to TV and cable lock is off. These also have to be set correctly for the RMDU to work.
